Créée le 8 février 1995, notre Association s’était donné pour principal objectif la protection du patrimoine naturel de la presqu’île de Giens. Depuis, cette fondation, les actions menées ont abouti au maintien de plusieurs centaines d’adhérents satisfaits par nos conférences, excursions, publications, bulletins mais aussi par nos animations dans les écoles d’Hyères, durant des expositions ou par l’équipement de sites naturels comme le sentier botanique de Giens.
Faire découvrir au plus grand nombre puis comprendre aussi simplement que possible le fonctionnement de ce patrimoine sont nos voies cardinales, conformes aux objectifs de ses fondateurs Jean SOUGY, Théodore MONOD et Joseph RIVOIRE qui ont tant donné pour nous le faire aimer et respecter. - Si notre première satisfaction réside dans l’acquisition en 2001 des Salins d’Hyères par le
Conservatoire du Littoral, nos efforts n’en sont pas moins persistants dans la protection de l’environnement ce qui nous a permis d’obtenir en 2001, le label ministériel d’Association pour la protection de l’Environnement.
- Nos premières réussites et la richesse intrinsèque de la commune d’Hyères aidant, nous débordons aujourd’hui l’emprise de cette dernière en proposant à nos adhérents la découverte de la Provence pour sa géologie, sa flore ou sa faune.
- Fondées sur un petit noyau d’animateurs bénévoles, ces activités nous permettent aujourd’hui une reconnaissance régionale et même internationale dans certains domaines comme la botanique où nos fiches de plantes provençales ont abouti en 2010 à un
herbier représentatif de l’Europe réédité dès 2011 en plusieurs langues. Notre logo centré sur Hyères exprime ce rayonnement au-delà de nos limites initiales.
- Cet intérêt pour la Provence ne nous distrait pas de notre vigilance sur le territoire d’Hyères, comme en témoigne nos réactions à l’égard de projets municipaux comme en 2010 l’aire d’accueil des gens du voyage sur la dernière zone humide d’eau douce (La Lieurette), ou certains choix à l’encontre des petites zones naturelles ignorées du nouveau PLU de 2011.
- Pour d’autres projets hors d’Hyères et en cours de discussion comme le tracé de la LGV ou l’exploration d’hydrocarbures, l’APG maintiendra sa vigilance.
- Dans notre vigilance à l’égard du patrimoine naturel et chaque fois que cela est possible, l’APG s’engage toujours dans une concertation préalable avec les concepteurs d’aménagements qui pourraient valoriser ou parfois, porter atteinte à ce patrimoine. Si cette démarche ne peut aboutir, l’APG emprunte la voie juridique.
Ainsi, pour l’obtention du label national Grand Site demandé par la commune, l’APG comme d’autres associations, propose son concours pour son élaboration d’ici 2013. Dans cette perspective, nous espérons en tirer profit pour bénéficier de l’usage des bâtiments d’accueil des visiteurs.

What we do?
- Created on February 8th, 1995, by Jean SOUGY, Thédore MONOD and Joseph RIVOIRE, our Association had given itself for main objective the protection of the natural heritage of the Peninsula of Giens. Since, this foundation, the led actions ended in the preservation of several members' hundreds satisfied by our conferences, excursions, publications, bulletin but also by our animations in the schools of Hyères, during exhibitions or by the equipment of natural sites as the botanical path of Giens.
- Make discover to the largest number then understand as simply as possible the functioning of these inheritance are our cardinal ways.
- If our first satisfaction lie in the acquisition in 2001 the Salt marshes of Hyères by the Conservatoire du Littoral, our efforts are not less persistent in the environmental protection there what allowed us to obtain in 2001, the ministerial label of Association for the environmental protection.
- Our first success and the intrinsic wealth of the municipality of Hyères helping, we extend beyond this area by proposing to our members the discovery of Provence for its geology, its flora or its fauna.
- Based on a small core of voluntary leaders, these activities allow us an even international and regional recognition in certain domains as the botany today where our index cards of Provençal plants ended in 2010 in a representative herbarium of Europe republished from 2011 in several languages. Our logo centered on Hyères expresses this radiation beyond our initial limits.
- This interest for the Provence does not distract us our vigilance on the territory of Hyères, as shows our reactions against municipal projects as in 2010 the reception area of the gipsies on the last wet zone of fresh water (Lieurette), or certain municipal choices against the little natural zones unknown by the new town planning of 2011. For other projects outside Hyères and in the course of discussion as the plan of the LGV (High Speed Railways) or the exploration of hydrocarbons, the APG will maintain its vigilance.
- In our vigilance towards the natural heritage and every time it is possible, the APG always propose a preliminary dialogue with the designers developments who could value or sometimes, strike a blow at these natural heritage. If this initiative cannot succeed, the APG borrows the legal way.
- So, for the obtaining of the national label Big Site asked by the municipality, the APG as the other associations, proposes its help for its elaboration before 2013. In this perspective, we hope to benefit from the use of the buildings of reception of the visitors.
